Many, many years ago, there was a sad, scared woman called Sonya. I thought I would introduce myself to you all and share my story on how my company came about.

My younger sister was diagnosed with a melanoma on her arm. She had it removed, and it left a big scar. She naturally became very sun-conscious and wanted to get a spray tan over the Christmas holidays.

I told her not to get one before I researched the ingredients. The ‘natural’ one that she was going to get was, in fact, synthetic and contained many questionable ingredients.

I had recently become a solo mum of 2 little girls. My worries consumed me, and I wasn’t sleeping. So I decided to throw myself into making a true organic spray tan from my tiny kitchen.

The colour was good from the get-go; however, boy, it was sticky as honey!

It sounds easy. It wasn’t. I was basically trying to turn myself into a chemist. I even joined a chemist corner and was driven even more crazy.

I became Australia’s only certified organic tan. For about 5 years, I held that title.

Then naturally, I would think of other organic products I wanted to make, and on and on we went.

I would sit in my daughter’s bedroom making sales calls in a dressing gown until one day I reached my capacity and hired a salesperson, Laura, to help me.

The money coming in only paid for her wage, so I was hairdressing in a shed in my backyard to keep it going initially.

My team grew slowly, and my right-hand woman, Mitzi, has been with me for over 13 years now. We even named our Mitzi Mascara after her.

Anyway, that’s a tiny bit of my story, and so much has happened in between. Some challenging times and some beautiful moments. I still have Laura with me too, and I have written a business book, “The Nudge,” if you want a deeper peek into my story.
